Don't Cry

It is with a heavy heart that I make this blog today.  This will be my last entry for a while, with finals, and this class being over Bobby Beats needs not be around.  If some viewers wanna comment and have me keep going I'd be glad to if not don't cry because I am gone.

Enjoy the sweat beat and awesome lyrics.

Little Bitch

This song is amazing.  I love it, it rocks and my band just decided to cover it so I thought that I would review it.  Classic Ska to the bone, perfect.  Gotta do something about that keyboard solo though.

Get Dancin'

I found this song over the weekend while I was driving around and I just love it.  It doesn't have a lot of words but it is so very catchy.  It's Disco Tex and his Sex-o-lettes with Get Dancin

I just finished listening to this song for the first time and it is so sweet.  Enjoy

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

I am all ears

This is a song called I'll be Around by Rappin' 4 Tay.  A very awesome song but some of his others just are not as good.  This has an amazing beat, it just sucks me in immediately.  It's so good.  The chorus is catchy and keeps me singing it all day, I hope you enjoy.

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

I've got somehting to say

This is a song by The Misfits called Last Caress and it is great.  I really like the Misfits and I haven't really listened to them in a long time but this song always brightens my mood and I hope you all enjoy it.

Its good today

I haven't posted anything by Ice Cube or N.W.A at all and they are very good.  I am actually shocked that I haven't posted anything yet.  This is one that you should all know someday, Cube comes in and it just shows you how good he is.  It is called You Know How We Do It and the beat is amazing and just flows so well.  When he comes in he just flows so well and sounds perfect over the beat. Things that he says just get stuck in your head and you can't resist but to groove. So here you go.

getting back to my roots

Another shocker, I haven't put up a song by an artist that I basically grew up on.  When I was younger my dad would always play his mixes on his reel to reel player and it was great.  Amongst the Tom Petty, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Steely Dan and Bob Marley there was always one man who made the appearance and the was The Boss.  Bruce Springsteen.  This is one of his best songs and I thought I sign off to the weekend with this.

I had a lot of driving to do today and I love crusin around to this song, it makes driving easy.  It is also my every playlist song.  Regardless of what I make the playlist for this song always weasels its way in.   Hope you all enjoy!!

Always Weird

I just found this song and it is super amazing and weird also.  The chorus is amazing and super catchy and this dudes voice is so strange.  It has a video as weird as the song itself.  It is one of those songs that I cannot tell if it is a joke or not.   I really hope you all like it because it is very good.  Stepdad is the band name with the song My Leather, My Fur, My Nails.

its hot

Well today was the first nice day and it was hot and I was just loving it so I thought I would give you a good song to hear on a hot day, Enjoy.

It's nice out

So the weather nice, which is just great for me.  I put on my summer playlist and what do I hear first but Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp.  This song is just awesome and I like it so much.  It has a catch chorus, awesome story telling and a bad ass solo.  It has everything you need for this nice day. Enjoy!!

it's good

This is something that all my readers should know about and if you don't, then we are going to have a problem shortly.  The blue album is Weezers best album and all the songs from it are amazingly good.  I could and have listen to the blue album for hours so it was hard to just pick one song off of it for the blog but I decided to go with In The Garage.  Excellent song.  Enjoy.

Lookin

This song I found when I was searching through Youtube for like hours.  It was way in the back with not many views but I love this song.  It's called Take a Look Around by The B.U.M.S or Brothas Under Madness.  It is really an excellent song.  The beat is solid and flows very well and it has different emcees which I love in the song.  Each emcee brings a different flavor to the song.

How do you fix a broken jackolatern?

This is by Fight of the Conchords and it is an awesome song.  I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Also, with a pumpkin patch.

How did this happen?

How have I not put anything up by my main man Mel-Low?  It is blaspheme in my house hold and I am sorry to all my readers.  Here is Money, Houses and Clothes one of my all time favorites.  Excellent song but a amazing, virtually unknown rapper.

Sweet Songs for the Weekends

This is one of my all time favorite hip hop groups for y'all to enjoy the weekend! Enjoy.

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Holy...

I picked this song because the video is very funny and it always gets stuck in my head.  I always liked them because not every band can have their own tv show, let alone, be superheros.  They have everything I like in a band and then some more.  The band and I have had a falling out, not that I actually knew them, but its still a great song and just something for you to enjoy on hump day.

It's new and hip

I just started listening to this hip hop group.  I don't have much to say about them yet but they are awesome.  They bring it straight Wu style and I am all about that. Enjoy!

Back to School

Well, Spring Break is over and as I enjoy this snow day I decided to review some songs.  First I'll put up a little something that always bring a smile to my face.
Now, for the real stuff.  This song is amazing, the beat is awesome, the voice fits in perfect and the chorus is just a party starter.  It is Dance Epidemic by Electric Six.  This is just a really top notch song, with a band that I found a new love for.  Enjoy the snow if yah got it and start an epidemic of dance.

Whats Up?

Well Spring Break is coming up fast & furious, sans Paul Walker, so I will be taking a week off from the blog.  When I come back it would be nice to have some of you recommend some songs for me to review, I'll have some in depth reviews for my readers.

Anyways, this is a song called What's up Fatlip? Fatlip is a guy from the Pharcyde but he got kicked out in the late 90s and didn't do much other stuff.  He came out with this on his own after being unheard for many years.  Just him saying what's going on, verses about getting kicked out all to when he got arrested with that transvestite.  However, it is an amazing song and I highly recommend it.

Two Great Bands in One Day

This is Bikeage by the Descendents.  A very amazing song by an amazing by an amazing band.  Milo's voice sounds amazing over a perfect Descendents riff.  It's from the album Milo Goes to College.  If you don't like the Descendents or don't know them, get this album and it will change everything.

This is Old Friend by Rancid.  One of my all time favorite bands, actually both of these bands are.  Two great bands for you all to get over hump day.  Enjoy!

Getting Beastly

Well, the weather around here seems to be getting nicer and nicer with each passing day so I thought I would put up a song I particularly like to listen to with the windows down while I am cruising through the town.  Enjoy and get outside y'all.

Protecting

This must be a week of songs and artist that slipped through the cracks during the first week.  But here is one all hip hop lover should know.  Protect Your Neck by none other than The Wu.
This is from Wu-Tang Clans first album which is Enter the 36 Chambers.  An amazing album and this the perfect example of the Wu.  They are an amazing group which a butt load of talented rappers who all had amazing solo careers.  I like this one the most because all nine group, that's right nine, members get there own verse even U-God.  Its just all over a great song. How can hip hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever?

For all you readers out there I would like to review songs you like and hear what you have to say.  Comment with videos for me to review, or anything.  I would like to hear from you so put in some stuff.

F*@K it.

I though I was slacking when I put up the Biggie song but now I notice that I am really slacking again.  Here is Atmosphere with F*@k You Lucy.

Atmosphere is kind of unknown but has been getting bigger with years passing.  It is two guys, Slug who is the rapper and Ant who works the turntable.  Together they have about seven or eight albums now.  This song is so great because you can hear the passion in Slug's voice, he really hates this girl.  The thing is, her name is not Lucy.  Lucy is Lucy Ford, or Lucifer, Slug made it up and says that it represents the evil in all people.  In this song, verse after verse he talks about this girl and how she ruined his life.  The beat is great and keeps you sucked in with the keys.  Slug's voice just towers over the beat.  It is a great song, I recommend you all check Atmosphere out and I'll put up some more hits by him.

Everyday

I am surprised that it took me this long to say something about this man.  Biggie was a rap pioneer and he made some of the greatest hip hop songs of all time before his untimely death.

This one is called Everyday Struggle.  It is really great the way the beat starts out and then you have those snare hits that just bring you into the song.  Biggies voice is so noticeable and part of what makes him so good, some may say a lyrical genius.  The song is just about how he sold crack on the streets to make money, like most of his songs, but the beat is solid in this and the verses are so good followed up by a great chorus.  It has everything I love in a hip hop song.  Props.

Taking it easy

Monday, its rough for us all so I though I would start off with something easy.  I like to play this song on guitar and it is a very lovely song played on any kind of guitar.  Fun fact about the lead singer of this band is that she wrote all of Pink's songs.  It's something you should all know Four Non Blondes with What's Up.

Death Reducer

I have been missing a couple more days than I would like, however, the semester is picking up so I will just have to do more when I have the time.  These two songs are amazing.
Here we go:

Everyone likes the The Clash, even if you don't know a lot about them.  This song is called Death or Glory and it is great.  It starts out with an awesome guitar rift and then goes on to a great rift from there.  When the chorus comes in you can hear why I would like it so much, the great voice with accompanying rifts and drums are amazing, its a great song.

This is another great song called Sonic Reducer and it is by the Dead Boys.  The lyrics are not the best but the song is still amazing.  It has a raw punk sound that I have come to love.  In the chorus they just rhyme reducer with loser a bunch of times but the rift is great.  Their is a bad ass solo right in the middle and even though you know it is coming it is still great.  The drums are flawless and the palm muted bass rift is amazing.  Just a perfect song all around.

Weird Wednesday

This is Electric 6 with a hit known as Down at McDonaldzzz.  The song is not very weird, in fact its down right catchy.  The video is very weird however, for example the lead singer is a centaur.  For no apparent reason.  High Voltage is another song by E6 that people know much more because Jack White does back up vocals in it.  It is a very great song and if you dig it I would check out I'm the Bomb which is also by E6, obviously.  Another quite strange video but a great song none the less. Enjoy!

Time for the hits

This song is called Runnin' by one of my all time favorite groups called The Pharcyde.  I started my blog with a song by them and this will not be the last time you will hear/ see me talking about them.  This is from Labcabincalifornia which is their last album as the original group.  In classic Pharcyde style each member has a verse and a style all their own.  They really know how to put out amazing songs.  The beat is solid and sucks you in with the sweet guitar part and the solid drums.  The chorus accompanied by the scratching of the records is amazing.  Then Fatlip comes in and shows you what their style is all about it.  Every member has such a great flow that shows you just how great they are.  One of the greatest hip hop groups of the 90s right here.

Time for Two

Well I missed one, this past Friday, so I am doing two today and what better was then to start off with Two Cups of Tea by Star Fucking Hipsters.
This right here is a great song.  I love the way that is slowly comes in and is very slow with some palm muted guitar and then goes right into some solid punk rifts with screaming and heavy distortion.  It shows how punk ranges from two totally different sounds especially breaking it up with the piano.  Before it sounds like mellow punk band and then turns into Choking Victim like music, which such a flawless transition how could one not love it.

And now some Gogol Bordello

Gogol Bordello is lead by Eugene Hutz, an amazing, crazy, gypsy man who loves music.  All of their songs are amazing and his voice just fits them so perfectly.  This one is called Wonderlust King.  I actually saw Gogol on New Year's Eve a few years back, around '09, and it was the most amazing show.  Not only are the songs good but the shows are.  Eugene had contortionists, dudes dressed up as robots, and tons of friends and family come on stage and go throughout the audience.  If you ever get a chance to see them, I strongly suggest you do.

Coolin

This is a song by Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto called Corcovado.  It is from an album called Getz/Gilberto.  Gilberto is a great Spanish guitarist and Getz is an American jazz musician.  This song is slow jazz but the musical parts are so great I could not resist putting it up here.  Getz is from France, originally, so in the song Gilberto's sister sings in English and Getz sings in French.  The balance between the two are so good that you don't even notice the French.

This whole album is insanely good, each song seems to have a different style.  If you do not like jazz then this is probably not for you, but if you enjoy good woodwind, guitar and singing styles then this is for you.

This is how we chill

This is a song by the Souls of Mischief called Cab Fare.  Souls are a great hip hop group coming out of Oakland.  They are part of Hieroglyphics hip hop group.  This song is about how the guys in the group can't get cabs in the cities because they look like thugs. The beat comes in and is really good.  Its one of those beats that just suck you in and get stuck in your head.  Each verse that is in comes in is amazing a flows so well with the song.  It really is a perfect song that shows why Souls of Mischief are so good.

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Putting it on

This song is called Put it on by none other than Big L.  This song just has it all.  An amazing beat, a great chorus and flawless verses.  Big L is such a good rapper but is virtually unknown, at least around here.  L is so good that he actually has a song with Biggie and Pac called Deadly Combination.  He was killed shortly after his first studio album came out and his second studio album was put out by his manager.  I think that he could have been as well known as Biggie or Pac if he wasn't killed so early.

Monday, February 18, 2013

Another week, more songs.

Hope you all had a good weekend, I know I did.  Anyways lets get right to it.

This song is called Past and Language by a band from Japan called Toe.  Toe is an all instrumental band, so the main focus is each instrument rather that what the singer is singing.  Every one in this band is an extremely talented musician.  I think this is a good example of Toe if you never heard them because each member really gets his own part to display his skills.  The drummer is insanely good and drives every song by Toe.  To me, it seems like the lead guitarist and the drummer fight over who can be louder and who can play something more complex.
If you don't like instrumental music I would still give this a try because if they were singing, it wouldn't be English so you still would have no idea what the song is really about anyways.  Very great band and very awesome songs.  This is there most well known by they have some very awesome tunes that are less known.

Friday, February 15, 2013

You knew this was coming.

Well, lets get right in the knitty gritty.

"It is the freaking weekend, time to have me some fun."  If you don't know this shame on you.  Have a great weekend.

Changing it up.

So by now all of my readers must think that all I listen to is the hip hop, however that is not true.  My musical taste is eclectic, at least I believe so.  So here we go trying another song from a different genre.

This is a song called  A Message to you Rudy from an English ska band know as The Specials.  They were first wave of ska and they were one of the first racially integrated bands to hit the scene.  Now if you have no idea what ska is, it is basically a fusion of reggae and jazz.  This song is very good and a classic ska staple.  Focusing hard on the up strokes of the guitar as well as the horns in the back.  The song itself is very well composed and has been covered by many a ska band through the years.  This is just a great ska song from a great ska band.  If you see the video you can see everyone in classic ska attire.  Black and white is most of the colors they wear.  A lot of them dress in suits because that is how first wave ska was.

This song is very good example of what ska is, first wave at least.  The Specials are a huge ska band and anyone who has heard any amount of ska should know who they are.

Party Starter

There should not be much that I need to say about this next song.  If you were born in the 90's or before you know this song.
This is Let Me Clear My Throat by DJ KOOL.  An amazing song, for anyone from anytime period.  There is only one official recording and it is from a show at Philadelphia (represent).  DJ Kool has an amazing voice and it just works so well over the beat.  The beat is a sample from The 45 King and goes throughout the song.  Kool does a great job of incorporating the crowd in the song and the beat just makes you, well me at least, want to dance.  It is a truly amazing song that I don't have anything negative to say about it.
If you are having a party and have run out of things to play, or if it is slowing down just put this song and get down!

Taking it back

As a man of my word here I am again with a new review for all you interneters.  Now this song is one of my all time favorites.  Its called Girls Ain't Nothin But Trouble by my main man Big Willy.

If you listen for more than one second you should instantly recognize the backing beat.  If not, it is the theme from I Dream of Jeannie.  This is classic Will Smith, before all the movies and all the fame, when he was just getting jiggy with it all the time.  But enough about him lets get on to the song.

Even though the beat is so noticeable it is very well executed by DJ Jazzy Jeff.  Just like the Will Smith we all know, he tears it up over the beat.  All his rhymes are pretty obvious where he is going, picking names and places for the pure sake of the rhyme.  However, his voice flows very well over the beat and he is good at changing his voice to go where it belongs, for example when he says he is cold and his voice shivers as he rhymes.  During the verse you can hear Big Willy really trying to make his rhymes fast so that he will gain respect from other 90s rappers of the time.  This song is way different that Will Smith in Gettin' Jiggy Wit It and Summertime which is how everyone knows him for.  He is actually a good rapper in this song.

The scratching on the beat is great a very well timed, the verses are good and the song as a whole is amazing.
Enjoy!

First Full Week

This shall be my first full week of blogging. If I happen to miss one you will find more the next day as soon as possible.  I don't plan to miss any however.

Now, with that out of the way, lets get to this Monday's song.

This sons is called Iesha by a group of young dudes by the name of Another Bad Creation.  It came out in 1990 from Motown Records.  After you get past the fact that a bunch of 12 year old guys are going after this girl who looks like she is way older than them the song doesn't have that much.  All of the verses are pretty band besides the backing vocals on Nintendo and Playground.  The chorus is the main focus of this song for me.  Now, I understand that they are very young so they will not be able to put awesome lyrics but the following chorus is just so good.  If I had to pick a favorite verse it would be verse two just because of the backing vocals on some of the words.  It's like they went for a hardcore, straight outta Compton, feel for the song and then the producers realized these kids were to young for that and changed it last minute.
Overall, I would give this song a eight out of ten because the chorus is so damn good and it is a bunch of 12 year olds making a love song about a girl way out of their league.

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Hello!

Hello out there interneters!

Welcome to Bobby Beats blog, the name is Bob if you couldn't already figure that out.  The Beats parts comes from the songs that I will put up.  Mostly five a week, one for each business day, and then I will write some stuff about them.  Such as my thoughts, some sort of review, or just how much I like it.

The origin of this blog lies in the hearts of a thousand children and in the fact that I also need to do some of it for a class here at WCU.

Without further ado, lets put up the first song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFg6OdORJcQ

This is a song called Passin' Me By by none other than The Pharcyde.  A hip hop group from Cali, big in the 90's.  Not as well known as they know as they should because this song is featured in such hits as Aggressive Inline the game and the intro to Big Daddy with Adam Sandler.  They also have another one of their hits, from the same album Bizarre Ride II, featured in Half Baked when Sir Smoke-A-Lot is on screen.

Anyways, this song has an amazing hook which is present throughout the whole song and instantly draws me in every time I hear it.  Then each one the members start out their own verse about a schoolboy crush they had and were forced to let her go.  Each emcee brings their own flavor to the song which helps to make it amazing.

Enjoy!
